Customising Neopets : How to...

If you've been a Neopian for a few weeks you've probably noticed that older players have cool graphics on their lookups and nifty tables on their petpages. You probably want something similar, and may have even started to learn HTML and stuff like that so you can give your own pets nifty tables or pretty graphics of their own. But, where do you begin?

I'm not talking about coding, or graphics design, or art. If you need help with that, you can start with Neopets' HTML guide and go from there. No, I'm talking about what older Neopians forget about - the so-called 'n00b question' - "How do I actually edit that?" It's not as silly as it sounds, especially since Neopets v2.0 has moved everything around, so here are some short step-by-step guides to help even the least net-savvy person find their way around. ^^;

...edit your pet lookups

The first thing you may want to do as you customise your Neopet experience is to give your pets their own unique lookup. You can do this in many ways including pretty art and graphics, poetry, whatever you feel comfortable doing. There are many sites out there offering premade lookups for you to use so the customising part is even easier if you aren't a webdesigner. ^^
  1. Log in to the relevant account - the one your chosen pet lookup is on.
  2. Go to your Quick Reference page by clicking on your active pet's name in the sidebar on any Neopets page where the sidebar actually features.

  3. Click on "Description" for whichever pet you want to customise.

  4. Input the content of your pet's lookup in the textarea.

  5. Click "Update Description".
  6. Go to that pet's lookup by returning to the Quick Reference page and clicking on the pet's name (under their picture).
  7. Check the customised lookup for errors and edit as necessary. ^^

...edit your userlookup?

Now that all your pets have their own unique lookups, the next thing you might want to do is give yourself a custom look by editing your userlookup. This is the page that everyone sees if they click on your name anywhere around the site so you may want to put up a bit of information about yourself. ^^
  1. Log in to the account you want to edit.
  2. Go to your User Information page (My Account > Edit Profile).
  3. Type in the correct password.
  4. Edit each section as you please. ^^
  5. Enter the content for your userlookup in the About Me textarea.

  6. Click on "Change Your Details".
  7. Go to your userlookup by clicking on your account name at the top right corner of any page.

  8. Check for mistakes and edit as necessary.

  5. View your shop by clicking on "Shop Front".

...edit your petpage

Lastly, you may decide you want to give your pet their own little webspace and/or go for the Petpage Spotlight. Other uses for petpages include a screenies page, owner's FAQ, guild information page... the possibilities are pretty endless but remember - Neopets is understandably strict about the words and codes you can use so be careful. ^_~
  1. Log in to the relevant account - the one your chosen petpage is on.
  2. Go here (My Account > Control Panel > Edit Petpage).
  3. Click on "Edit" for whichever petpage you want to edit.

  4. Input the content of your petpage in the textarea provided. ^^
  5. Click on "Make Changes".
  6. Go back to your editing page (My Account > Control Panel > Edit Petpage) and click "View".
  7. Check your petpage for mistakes and edit as necessary. ^-^
