Design Portfolio

This page is an inconclusive collection of website designs I've made since starting to learn in 2005. All of the layouts on this page are my personal property, designed for friends or are shop orders and are not for sale or free adoption. Do not take any of them, thank you.

Please read the Terms of Use before viewing this page.

Soggy Muse Designs

Although Soggy Muse has moved around a bit prior to finding Pandela, it's only actually had two layouts (three if you count Pink v1 and v2 as two separate designs. >>;). This is mostly because I quite like my pink layout, and partly because I'm too lazy to make designs for a site that already has a layout I like. =P

Name: Soggy Muse :: Crimson Jade
Layout: Divs
Date: October, 2007
Credit: Aethereality, Celestial Star and Hybrid Genesis
Description: I adore Chen Shu Fen and Dezhen's artwork. I have absolutely no idea who they are but their art is just so beautiful it makes me drool.

Name: Soggy Muse :: Pink v2
Layout: Divs
Date: July, 2007
Credit: Aethereality, Celestial Star and Paper Sweets
Description: I was upgrading the coding for my website and realised I no longer liked the banner of Pink v1, so I edited the design a little and made a new banner.

Neopets

I have eight adorable Neopets who inspire a lot of my work. From lookups to application layouts, blogs to petpages, my pets are the reason I decided to learn HTML in the first place. I also make lookups and page layouts for friends. ^^;

Name: Loofe's Lookup
Layout: Pet Lookup
Date: October, 2007
Credit: Neopets.
Description: Loofe was incredibly inspiring. As soon as I read her story I knew what I wanted from the lookup and it all came together nicely. ^^;
View

Name: Dauny's Lookup
Layout: Pet Lookup
Date: October, 2007
Credit: Neopets. Art by Veggie.
Description: I'd made Niet's and was looking for my next victim. Evie wasn't feeling well so I told her to pick a pet and she chose Dauny. :D he was fun to make, and pretty easy since I could vandalise the petpage I made for him. >>;

Name: Nietzchian's Lookup
Layout: Pet Lookup
Date: October, 2007
Credit: Neopets. Art by Joy.
Description: TNT's revamp broke all my old lookups and I finally found some time to remake one or two. Niet was first on the list. xD
View

Name: xSquish Halloween
Layout: Userlookup
Date: October, 2007
Credit: Neopets.
Description: I'd wanted to enter the Userlookup Spotlight contest since well before the revamp but never got around to it. I was greatly disappointed when they switched over just after I entered! I finally reentered for Halloween.

Name: Squishify Lookup
Layout: Userlookup
Date: 2007
Credit: Neopets.
Description: This was the first lookup I made that wasn't Neopets-related but after switching mains I decided I wanted something a little different. I quite like the way it turned out. ^^;

Name: Nietzchian's Garage
Layout: Divs, Petpage
Date: April, 2005
Credit: Neopets. All art used with full credit
Description: I wanted something simple but that looked good and could stretch as much, height-wise, as I needed for the extreme content I planned to input.
View

Name: Application for muffinPuff
Layout: Divs, Website and Petpage
Date: June, 2005
Credit: Neopets. All art used with full credit
Description: I wanted a girlish layout that wasn't too girly, was dedicated to Puff but allowed room for the twin's stories, and was easy on the eyes.
View

Name: Application for Wistfully
Layout: Divs, Petpage
Date: December, 2006
Credit: Neopets and Aethereality
Description: I wanted a magical, starry layout to pay tribute to Wistfully's gorgeous colours and her daydreamer personality.

Elysian Post Layouts

Starting in April 2007, we opened Elysian Fields up to 'post layouts' whereby each character could develop a table (or in most cases div blogs) to make their posts stand out. There are now three types of layout in use on EF - post, journal and shop - and each type is available to buy in my shop, Piper's Boutique. There are size limits (nothing over 500px wide, and post layouts must have a textarea of no less than 400px) but it's amazing how creative you can get within those limits. xD

These layouts are not adoptable. These are previous orders and belong solely to the person who paid for them, with full copyright to me.

Name: Arkadios Rhea
Layout: Posts
Credit: Paper Sweets and Time On My Hands
Description: Dora wanted something dark or black but I was playing around and this came out. I think it reflects Kade's previous Red Dragon status and even now as a Black Dragon this suits him really well, in my opinion. She added a black dragon which makes it even better now. ^^;
View

Name: Calendar Competition
Layout: Posts
Credit: Paper Sweets and Aethereality
Description: This was a commission for one of EF's new contests (which wasn't very successful >>;). I wanted something that seemed mysterious, since the contest is all about creating calendar events.
View

Name: Chenoan Cirocco
Layout: Posts
Credit: Paper Sweets. Lyrics by Russ.
Description: Russ is a little fussy when it comes to layouts. xD His tastes and mine tend to differ but I think he really liked the way this turned out. Eventually. >>; It features lyrics written by Russ himself. He wanted the words to be the most prominent feature of the layout, which admittedly I didn't do too well, but I do like the way they fade in and out of the background. I also really like the lovely glowy effect of the text and feel that it lends a magical quality to the piece.
View

Name: Chenoan Cirocco
Layout: Journal
Credit: Aethereality. Griffin source unknown.
Description: Russ wanted something similar to one of my own character's journals, a div that has artwork that takes up half the width and the text squashed into a 50% column on one side. The griffin picture was lovely and went well with the dark blues Russ wanted, but making it tile smoothly was more difficult than I expected it to be. The whole piece looks amazing in use and really brings Chenoan's griffin form to attention.
View

Name: Chris
Layout: Journal
Credit: Aethereality and Paper Sweets
Description: The image was probably one of the most difficult I've dealt with and I went through several versions of this layout before I was satisfied, but I'm quite happy with the finished result. I don't think Chris ever actually used it but it's one of my better projects, although I think if I did it again I'd probably leave out the white "Chris" framework. The text is made up of a couple of different phrases including "It was the best of times, the worst of times" and "Yea, though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death".
View

Name: Daoine Sidheanta
Layout: Journal & Posts
Credit: SparklingTea, Aethereality, Paper Sweets Celestial Star and Soggy Muse
Description: Esther had something specific in mind when she commissioned this layout and even picked out which textures I could use, which can often make things difficult but not in this case. I'm not sure where the dragon came from but I do know I used it in a previous layout for Arkadio Rhea's journal. I even made the star brush specially for this layout. :)
View

Name: Dazadi Dacre Rhea
Layout: Posts
Credit: Aethereality and Paper Sweets
Description: Daz is an assassin so I was surprised that this was the result when I sat down to make her layout, but at the same time I believe it really suits her. It's mystical and the starry background shores up any references I make to her incredibly lonely past, a kind of "one star among so, so many" thing. I'm not sure which poet wrote the words I used or where the unicorn picture came from, but they add to the mysticism of this piece and really, I think, make it what it is.
View

Name: Design a Creature Competition
Layout: Posts
Credit: Paper Sweets and Capricious Dream
Description: Another commission for EF's contests, this one all about designing Elysian creatures like the recent khimaira infestation, I wanted something clean-cut with an animal as the focus. I wasn't comfortable with photomanipulation at this point so I used this butterfly brush I adore. This was my first real (successful) attempt at creating a banner that would seamlessly tile with the background.
View

Name: Dracos Panas, Zanaryan Tattoos
Layout: Shop
Credit: Paper Sweets. Heart source unknown
Description: Dracos wanted me to use two other tattoo images but they were white backgrounds and quite complex to extract so I focused on this broken heart image. Luckily it was the one she was most interested in having on here, and it best lent itself to a pretty but not too feminine layout. I tiled the swirls in the back so the background wasn't plain black, and really only added the star to the corner to hide the faded corner's transition, but I think it really adds to the layout. I love the vibrancy of the heart, though, and tried to make everything else darker and faded so nothing would detract from it.
View

Name: Elise Theiroe, The Refinery
Layout: Shop
Credit: Digik, Celestial Star and Aethereality
Description: Perhaps one of the most difficult layouts I've made, I really liked the image Joy gave me to work with but it was difficult to manipulate and took several attempts to come up with a layout I liked. I'm not convinced this was satisfactory for her in the end, but it is one I'm quite proud of. The stars were meant to ease the transition from the banner into the background but weren't successful. I still like it.
View

Name: Exploring Elysia Contest
Layout: Posts
Credit: Paper Sweets and Aethereality. Map source unknown
Description: Another commission for EF's competitions, this one the Exploring Elysia contest whereby members make up new areas to explore in keeping with Elysia's setting. I spent hours searching google.com/images for a map I could use that wasn't copyrighted or too familiar and the majority of the time spent on this layout was in finding ways to feature the map I found in a pretty way.
View

Name: Faroah
Layout: Posts
Credit: Paper Sweets and Aethereality
Description: Faroah is a dragon and EF's mascot, so I wanted something mysterious but playful.
View

Name: Jade, Forgiven Jewelry
Layout: Shop
Credit: Wonderland Effect, Photobucket, Shoegal Icons and RainbowNightmares
Description: Jade picked out the background and wanted something fancy and starry for her jewelry shop. I really like the result, personally, and I believe she's still using it. ^-^
View

Name: Kaeldra L'Drali
Layout: Posts
Credit: Celestial Star and Paper Sweets
Description: This was actually the second version I sent Grace because she didn't like the first. Even though I spent more time on the first attempt, I like this much more. Odd, neh? xD This one is much more interesting and while simpler, suits the picture better. Grace actually gave me a sketched plan to follow for this layout but it was difficult to stick to it. >>;
View

Name: Kaeldra L'Drali, The Celtic Violinist
Layout: Shop
Credit: Aethereality and Paper Sweets
Description: I really like this layout. It was the first time I tried an actual frame to focus the layout around an image and a few subsequent layouts have had this kind of feature so it's started a new trend. xD I love the background too and the way the whole piece fits together. The only thing I didn't like was the end result, with the text so far below the focus of the banner because I automatically tiled the background as a 500x500 image. If I made it again, I'd make the height a little shorter so there's not such a big gap.
View

Name: Kaeldra L'Drali
Layout: Posts
Credit: Aethereality and Shoegal
Description: I love this layout. I spent a lot of time on this one and love everything about it. My only wish is that I'd made the focal image smaller so that the layout didn't stretch quite so much in height. I don't think Kaeldra ever actually used it but I might use the idea of the overall layout for one of my own in the future since I like this so much. ¬_¬

Oh look! Empty space! XD Lalalalalalalaaaaaa. *romps around playfully* Anyone know any jokes? So a priest, a rabbi and a bishop... argh, dreadful joke. T_T
View

Name: Kaida Tanili
Layout: Posts
Credit: Capricious Dream and Paper Sweets. Polar bear and quote source unknown
Description: I love the jungle effect of this layout and the way the sleeping polar bear, looking so innocent, peeks through the 'foliage'. Dora also added a faded picture of a girl over the top to personalise it, but I think it's incredibly personal to Kaida even without the extra imagery.
View

Name: Naava Makani
Layout: Posts
Credit: Aethereality and Paper Sweets
Description: I'm not sure what it is I love about this piece because the fonts Russ asked me to use are normally ones I don't like, and the piece as a whole is overcomplicated and busy, but overall I still like it, and I think it's suited to Russ's character.

OEMGEE, more empty space! :O What shall we dooooo?

Ooh, shiny.

Waja Cave Designs

Wajas is a relatively new (to me, anyway) cyberpet adoption site. I'm what you could call a reluctant player - one who finds the site itself quite boring and the breeding techniques too difficult to understand, but finds herself whiling away the time there. It revived my Chibi-Kao Adoption Centre (a massive failure on EE) and gave me an almost impossible challenge to overcome. Unlike previous sites, like Neopets, who's base layout was simple to understand and recode for personal use, Waja's layout is complex and requires an overuse of the !important command. Even then, banners for cave layouts require exact dimensions which doesn't give you a lot of leeway with designs, so while it's possible to garner some unique qualities in individual designs, the basis has to be the same all the way. Like I said, a challenge to overcome. xD

Thankfully, Wajas allows us to charge (play money, aka Waja Credits) for cave designs, so the challenge is a little more rewarding than it might have been otherwise. Which is a good thing, because I sincerely doubt I would have continued the battle if it wasn't profitable. And no, for the record I am not willing to sell or otherwise give up what now amounts to over a hundred hours of work by letting you have my cave codes. =P

Name: Crimson Dreams
Layout: Divs
Date: July, 2007

Description: Crimson Dreams was designed by my girlfriend. I don't think this design does her justice. u_u

Name: Effervescent
Layout: Divs
Date: July, 2007
Credit: Paper Sweets and Simplicity's Adoptables
Description: I don't think Effervescent minds all the pink, oddly, and I quite like the design. ^^; It suits him, somehow, despite the girliness. xD

Name: Emerald Knight

Description: I think this is a bit too simple for a waja with such a majestic name but the colours suit him. ^^

Name: Crystal Caverns
Layout: Divs
Date: June, 2007
Credit: Paper Sweets
Description: This really is my first (supposedly) successful battle with the Wajas Code. I really like this layout, the fae quality and dark purple tones - with just a hint of emerald two-tone - is perfect for my vision of my cave. I think the Crystal Caverns is based on the Elysian Underground, for which I've always had this picture in my head of a glittering underground grove where light reflects off gems and crystals embedded in dark rock. I like the way this turned out. ^^;

Name: Zsadist
Layout: Divs
Date: July, 2007
Credit: Absinthe's Adoptables
Description: Zsadist's my badass Divine and I wanted something dark and bloody. It may be simple with just a bit of a texture, but I think it's effective and really sums up Zsadist's violent nature. =D

Designs for Others

Sometimes I make designs for the heck of it, or on request from friends, or even as gifts for their birthdays and Christmas. It's good exercise for my graphic and coding skills and keeps me in practise even when I have no need for a layout for myself.

Name: Blue Masquerade
Layout: Blog
Date: March, 2007
Credit: Aethereality and Paper Sweets
Description: I'd just made two blogs for the most recent additions to my Neopet family and was still feeling creative, so I made two more. I was just experimenting with techniques, colours and some new brushes (Paper Sweets has some gorgeous brushes and best of all she always includes the image pack so it doesn't matter what graphics programme you use). I really like this one, and it was snatched up. ^-^

Name: Sun-dewed Butterflies
Layout: Blog
Date: March, 2007
Credit: Celestial Star and Paper Sweets
Description: I'm not as happy with this blog as I was with the Blue Masquerade, although I made them both the same day along with two others I really liked for personal use. This was snapped up as quickly as Blue Masquerade when I offered it for free adoption to the first person who wanted it, but I admit I was a little disappointed with the way it turned out. Especially since I noticed a typo in the credits when it was too late to fix it. T_T

Description: This was kind of a freebie commission from my best friend, Evie, and her fiance for the information site they were putting up for the Civil Union. ^-^ I think the end result is pretty nice.
